God, oh God, oh God–
give us the courage
to speak up and out
to name the pain
the injustice
the suffering–
to look at it
to feel it
to take action
however small it may be
because the sum
of countless small acts
can make big change.

Proverbs 31:8-9 Speak up for those who cannot speak for themselves, for the rights of all who are destitute. Speak up and judge fairly; defend the rights of the poor and needy.

Isaiah 1:17 Learn to do right; seek justice. Defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow.

Amos 5:24 Do you know what I want? I want justice—oceans of it. I want fairness—rivers of it. That’s what I want. That’s all I want.

God of restoration and renewal
I pray for your healing
for all of us
who are sick
in body, mind, heart, or spirit.
Walk with us on the path of illness
because deep healing is found in you.

Matthew 9:35-38 Then Jesus made a circuit of all the towns and villages. He taught in their meeting places, reported kingdom news, and healed their diseased bodies, healed their bruised and hurt lives. When he looked out over the crowds, his heart broke. So confused and aimless they were, like sheep with no shepherd. “What a huge harvest!” he said to his disciples. “How few workers! On your knees and pray for harvest hands!”

Word of God,
let us come to you when we have no words
when the world in all its brokenness, nonsense, injustice and horror
overwhelms us.
Let us come to you
so that your word
can fill us up
with
prayer
petition
hope
and right action.

John 1-5:
The Word was first,
the Word present to God,
God present to the Word.
The Word was God,
in readiness for God from day one.

Everything was created through him;
nothing–not one thing!–
came into being without him.
What came into existence was Life,
and the Life was Light to live by.
The Life-Light blazed out of the darkness;
the darkness couldn’t put it out.

Our creator
who made something out of nothing,
we pray that you would fill
the voids in our hearts.
Meet us in our grief and yearning
because, though it’s often hidden from us,
you are the deep desire behind the desire.
You are wholeness and home.

Psalm 63:1
O God, you are my God, earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you, my body longs for you, in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
